Android 16 could lift this Apple Intelligence feature

Apple and Android are two rival platforms, but they sometimes copy features from one another. One AI feature that Apple introduced might be making its way over to Android, but in a less robust form. According to a new report, Android could get a notification summary feature.

One of the first AI-powered features that Apple brought with Apple Intelligence was notification summaries. As the name implies, it will give you AI-generated summaries of your notifications. So, when you look at your notifications, you’ll be able to get an idea of what’s going on.

While it’s a useful tool on paper, this feature ran into issues with inaccurate results. It will get better over time, but it doesn’t look good on Apple’s part.

Android could get notification summaries

It looks like Google wants to take a crack at this feature. We’re sure that it will do better; it only had a few massive controversies regarding its AI. Mishaal Rahman dug into the newly-released Android 16 beta 3 and found some interesting strings. They hint at a notification summaries feature and an accompanying settings page.

According to the report, the feature will work similarly to how it does on iOS. However, there will be one major difference. Apple’s implementation would summarize all notifications, no matter what type they are. However, Android’s version will only summarize conversation notifications. These are notifications from messaging apps like Google Messages, Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp, Slack, and more.

This makes sense, as conversations lend themselves more to being summarized. Most other app notifications tell you everything you need to know in just a few words. However, if you wake up to multiple notifications from someone, and you don’t have the time to go through them all, then a quick summary would be perfect.

If this feature launches, people will draw an obvious connection to Apple’s feature. Regardless, it will be interesting to see how Google makes its version different or better.
