Once upon a time, you might think TVs were the best option for playing games on a console, but with the PS5 and PS5 Pro, gaming monitors are a really solid choice, especially since many gamers these days are choosing to set up their PS5 at their desk.
Just like with TVs, there are several different monitor options out there that could be viable for playing games on PS5, so we’ve rounded up the best options for you to save you some time. And you might even save a little money along the way if the monitors are on sale. Spoiler alert, some of them likely will be, but no guarantees.
As for what you should be looking for, it really all depends on what your wants are. If you want something that delivers 4K picture quality, we have several options listed. That being said, the PS5 also supports 1080p and 1440p. Ultimately, those might be less expensive options. So, it’s worth considering them if you don’t really care about playing games in 4K.
Also worth considering is what size monitor you want. Smaller monitors will still ensure that lower resolutions will look good. What we wouldn’t compromise on is something with a high refresh rate. You also want something with a low input lag and if you can settle on something with more than one or two ports, all the better because it means you can plug in more than just your PS5. The good news is that most monitors are going to have a few ports these days. So you shouldn’t be too limited there.
For the best experience, we suggest going with something that supports 4K and has a 120Hz refresh rate while also supporting VRR and providing at least one HDMI 2.1 port. You also want to look at what the audio options are for the monitor you’re choosing. The PS5 and PS5 Pro don’t support optical like the PS4 and PS4 Pro do. So that means you’re limited to choosing something that has a 3.5mm audio port for speakers or something with an extra HDMI port for a sound bar or something like that.
It’s either that or the monitor needs to have built-in speakers, or you have to be content with using a headset. At the end of the day, you have plenty of options, but the monitor you pick is going to come down to finding something that fits your unique situation. Whether that’s the absolute best option or something that fits within your budget, even if it means compromising on a few things.
Best Overall Gaming Monitor: BenQ MOBIUZ EX321UX
I’ve had the pleasure of using a handful of different gaming monitors for my PS5 over the past few years, and so far, BenQ’s MOBIUZ EX321UX has been my favorite. It’s a decent enough size to serve as my main display for my PC, but it also works well with PS5 since I have mine on my desk opposite the PC side.
This monitor provides 4K resolution with a nice 144Hz refresh rate, which is by no means the highest for a gaming monitor, but the PS5 only supports up to 120Hz anyways, so this is more than enough. The IPS panel is Mini-LED, and the monitor has a high peak brightness of 1,000 nits with a full-screen brightness of 700 nits. In short, it’s extremely bright, and I’ve yet to have an issue with glare.
With several other monitors I’ve used, glare has been a bigger issue. Because one of my windows directly faces the monitor. So when the sun shines through, it can be a problem when playing games. Not with the BenQ MOBIUZ EX321UX, however. Now, this might not be an issue for you much, but if you struggle with the glare on your monitor with your current setup, this monitor will help alleviate that issue.
It has a 1ms gtg, and as far as input latency goes, I haven’t really noticed any issues, even after spending time on games where input latency matters, such as Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 and Marvel Rivals. The features keep coming with this monitor as well with a plethora of IO ports, including two HDMI 2.1 ports and a third that supports eARC 7.1. There are no built-in speakers, unfortunately, so you’ll need to provide your own sound system. That being said, that’s easy enough to do and not too expensive these days. This monitor also supports DisplayPort 2.1 if you want that future-proofing for your PC.
Additionally, there’s a USB-C port with 65W power delivery here, so you could even hook up a non-gaming laptop to use this as an external display if you wanted. There are a lot of connectivity options alongside the other great features. And that’s partly the reason for this monitor’s high cost. Which, by the way, sits at around $1,099.99 right now on Amazon. If there’s one major downside, it’s the price tag.
You could opt for an OLED panel that might end up costing less money, but you will lose some of the features this monitor offers. Overall, it depends on what you’re looking for, but so far, this has been an exceptional experience for PS5. So if you have the budget, this is a really solid PS5 monitor with plenty of extras.

Best OLED Gaming Monitor: MSI MPG 321URXW QD-OLED
If you want the best of the best for a gaming monitor, the MSI MPG 321URXW QD-OLED comes out ahead across the board for most areas you want a gaming monitor to excel in. For starters, it’s a 32-inch QD-OLED panel. OLED gaming monitors are really the best you can get, thanks to their amazing color contrast with deep, inky blacks, but they’re still quite expensive. That may change once Alienware launches its new range of 2025 QD-OLED monitors, which are supposed to come in cheaper than before.
Until then, your options for an OLED gaming monitor are going to mostly stick to the considerably higher price tags. This is where the MSI MPG 321URXW QD-OLED kind of breaks away from the pack. It’s less expensive than a lot of the competition, although it is still expensive and prohibitively so for some consumers. If you can afford it, though, this monitor probably has everything you could want in a gaming monitor.
It’s 4K resolution with a 240Hz refresh rate, so it’s already off to a great start. But it doesn’t stop there because this monitor also has an incredibly low input latency and a 0.03ms gtg. In other words, this monitor is fast and won’t bog your games down. MSI has also installed a graphene film with a custom-designed heatsink to help keep the monitor cool during sustained, heavy use.
This is important because it’s part of MSI’s approach to preventing OLED burn-in, which is always a risk when going with something that has an OLED panel. But this should help minimize that risk considerably. The monitor also has several IO ports, including two HDMI 2.1 ports, one for DisplayPort 1.4, one USB-C port, two USB-A ports, one USB-B port, and an earphone out port. The brightness is also staggeringly good at 1,000 nits. This isn’t the absolute brightest, but it is plenty bright, so you shouldn’t have much of an issue with glare or using this to play games in brightly lit rooms.
Now, as for cost, this is currently available on Amazon and Best Buy for $899.99. Coming in at under $1,000 makes it more affordable than some of the other high-end OLED options. It’s still costly, however, and there are less expensive options if you’re looking for that.

Best Large Format Gaming Monitor: Samsung Odyssey Ark 2nd Gen
When it comes to big gaming monitors that are the size of a TV, Samsung’s Odyssey Ark 2nd Gen takes the cake. The display is not only 55 inches in size, but it has a native 16:9 aspect ratio when you’re using the monitor with a single source. This makes for an absolutely massive screen for gaming, and because it’s 16:9, it ends up looking quite good with the PS5 and PS5 Pro. More or less like they were hooked up to a 55-inch TV.
Of course, there’s a lot more than the size that goes into why we selected the Odyssey Ark as the best large gaming monitor. It has several awesome features that you won’t find on other monitors. One of those is the 4-input multiview. This pairs really well with the included control station that comes with the monitor. It has several IO ports for connecting multiple pieces of hardware. So you could easily hook up your PS5 or PS5 Pro, but also hook up a gaming PC, a Nintendo Switch, and Xbox Series X|S if you have all of those too.
To make this even better, the monitor has an Auto Source Switch feature. If you have multiple devices hooked up to the monitor, like your consoles and your gaming PC, the monitor will automatically switch to the source that was most recently powered on. So, for example, if you were working on your PC all day and then turned on your PS5 after work, the monitor would switch to the PS5 source without you having to do anything. This isn’t a necessary feature to have, but let me tell you, it sure is nice.
My current monitor doesn’t offer this, and every time I swap between the PC and PS5 inputs, I imagine how great it would be if this step wasn’t needed. Of course, the most important part of any monitor is how good the image quality is. The Odyssey Ark provides exceptional image quality with its 4K resolution, and the 165Hz refresh rate ensures your games will look nice and smooth.
We also really love that it has an included KVM Switch. This comes more into play if you have more than one PC connected to the monitor. But what it does for you is allow you to control all of the PCs that are hooked up to the Odyssey Ark 2nd Gen with a single mouse and keyboard. This is a major convenience feature, and again, a feature that isn’t really necessary, but it does make things much easier for those with a multi-PC setup.
Speaking of control, the Odyssey Ark comes with this really neat Ark Dial remote for controlling pretty much all the monitor’s features. It’s a pricey monitor at a regular price of $2,699.99, but Amazon currently has it on sale for $1,600.

Best 1440P Monitor: LG UltraGear 27GS95QE
What’s nice about the 1440p options is that you’re going to be spending a little less money than if you go with something that’s 4K. Of course, you can still spend a decent chunk of money on a 1440p panel if you aren’t willing to compromise too much. If 1440p is what you’re looking for, then look no further than the LG UltraGear 27GS95QE. With QHD resolution and a lightning-fast 250Hz refresh rate, it’ll be more than capable of supporting the 120Hz that the PS5 and PS5 Pro support.
This is a 26.5-inch monitor, which isn’t massive, and that’ll mean lots more space on your desk for other things. If you have a smaller desk surface, a monitor like this one is big enough to provide great clarity for games while still leaving you some room for your PS5, DualSense controller, and whatever else you need or want on it.
This monitor also uses an OLED panel, so colors will pop off the screen with vivid contrast to those inky blacks. The color is a little better on the MSI monitor, but this is less expensive, and we think that’s a good compromise considering the price difference, as the colors and blacks are still good here. The one caveat to the price is that it’s only less expensive because, right now, Amazon has it on sale at a price of $596.99. Its regular price is $899.99, which is the same as the MSI monitor above.
If the prices were the same, we’d just suggest going with the MSI because it’s a slightly bigger panel, it’s 4K, and it has a few more features. This monitor also has really good HDR picture quality, and we really like the anti-glare coating for little to no reflection. The reflection will depend on the lighting in the room, though, and there are some instances where it might be noticeable.
The brightness is pretty good but not the strongest point of this monitor. If you want something that’s super bright, you have options. The BenQ above is incredibly bright, for example. However, it is considerably more than this monitor while the LG is available at its sale price. Overall, though, this is a solid pick.

Best Monitor For Exclusive PS5 Features: Sony InZone M9 II
The Sony InZone M9 II has a lot going for it, and as a PS5 or PS5 Pro monitor, it’s an excellent option. It meets the demands of those looking to get into something that’s 4K, plus it has two HDMI 2.1 ports and an updated 160Hz refresh rate compared to the 144Hz of the original. Meaning it’ll support the 120Hz the PS5 and PS5 Pro can take advantage of with an HDMI 2.1 cable. As an added bonus, if you have an Xbox Series X|S as well, you can use the second HDMI 2.1 port for that.
It also has DisplayPort 2.1 so if you have a gaming PC as well, you can use that port for the PC. While it gets rid of the matching design that the original InZone M9 had, it comes with a more compact base that won’t take up as much surface area on your desk. That could be an important factor to look out for if your desk is a bit smaller or if there just isn’t a ton of room because you have a lot of other things to put on it.
What’s really awesome about the stand is that it rotates fully so you can place the monitor exactly where you want it to fit your setup. Ensuring you can still see the screen no matter where the monitor sits.
As for PS5-exclusive features, the InZone M9 II offers Auto HDR Tone Mapping and Auto Genre Picture Mode, just like some of Sony’s TVs and the original version of this monitor. The Auto Genre Picture Mode is great because it allows the monitor to detect whether you’re playing games or watching movies and swap the picture mode to match the content you’re consuming. Of course, you can select the picture mode manually if you find something you prefer over what the auto mode picks for you. But having it automatically swap is awesome for convenience.
This version of the monitor, unfortunately, gets rid of the KVM Switch that the original model has, but it does keep the built-in speakers, and that makes this perfect for multi-platform setups if your speakers can only hook up to one piece of hardware. At $799.99, it’s a bit more expensive than the original M9, but it is nicer. So we think it’s worth the extra $150.

Best Budget Monitor: LG UltraGear 27GP850-B
There are some pretty good budget options out there if you’re looking for a great monitor that won’t break the bank and make your wallet hate you for the foreseeable future. My recommendation is going to be the LG UltraGear 27GP850-B because it ticks all the right boxes, and you get a crisp, clear picture for under $400.
You could also consider the BenQ MOBIUZ EX2710Q. It has a 27-inch panel, just like the LG option, and the same resolution at QHD. For the moment, it’s on sale for $$269.99. So if you can pick it up at that price, then I suggest going with that instead. However, its normal price is $369.99. So, if it goes back up in price, then stick with LG’s UltraGear 27GP850-B, as it retails for $375.
You get several ports on the back of this monitor if you want to plug in multiple platforms. This includes two HDMI ports, a DisplayPort connection, a headphone/speaker port, two USB-A ports, and a USB-B port. It has a 165Hz refresh rate, so for PC, you can easily get that. It also supports a refresh rate of up to 120Hz at the 1440p resolution so you can still enjoy games with smooth visuals.
